Kabusecha
Kabusecha, meaning “covered tea” in Japanese, is a rare tea crafted from leaves grown under shade for about two weeks, reducing sunlight by roughly 85%. This traditional method creates a vibrant green leaf, boosts chlorophyll, and preserves natural amino acids, giving the tea its signature sweetness, rich umami, and soft, rounded flavor. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed and gently kneaded into their thin, needle-like shape. Kabusecha is best enjoyed at lower temperatures for a smooth, umami-forward experience. This Kabusecha is produced by Kurihara Tea Farm, run by brothers Akio and Yuji, who are 4th generation tea farmers.
